Studying design allows me to think about how objects or tools shape people’s lives. Simple product designs should help consumers accomplish tasks more easily or even bring a smile to someone’s face. There are several things I consider when thinking about a design. I believe in creating something functional, and also something that is pleasing to the eye. I spend time thinking about the purpose and the function behind a product. I often think about how a product can be improved. I find joy in different design disciplines that include creativity, technology, and even empathy. I love creating designs and concepts more than I love the research behind it, but I think the research behind design is important too. I want to understand how people work and how I can create something that solves their problems. I think the best designs are the ones people don’t realize are there. Good design changes someone’s life. Those changes give me the most purpose. I have the most interest in user-oriented and sustainable design, keeping in mind the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. We live in a world today where we have a lot of resources that are harmful, and a high demand by the customer. It is the job of the designer to make products that are (1) meaningful, (2) long-lasting, and (3) waste-efficient. I want to find out more about the products of the future and how they use newer manufacturing technologies, design, and digital tools. I hope to study industrial design because I want to be able to fabricate and realize my ideas concretely. I also hope to strengthen my skills in drawing, prototyping, and design software such as CAD, as well as gain a deeper understanding of design process and practice. I hope to learn to work and collaborate. I also want to learn to accept critique in order to increase the efficacy of my ideas. I have a goal to design products that create better experiences. To design this way, I recognize that I will need to engage with real world problems. As a result, I have interest in industrial design because it allows me to use my imagination in a field that is highly purposeful and offers considerable challenge. I am also interested in designing objects that are valuable and useful to their users while being sustainable.
