The letter starts off by stating who they are and why they want the job. They go into their qualifications, state what their experience has been and how it relates to the position. They then describe the type of projects they worked on and the results from those projects. Next they list out all the tools they are proficient with and the processes they've used in their previous jobs. After listing tools and processes, they go into what makes them unique. They point out other qualities like mentoring junior staff members, working collaboratively with others, creating a culture of data driven decision making, etc. Lastly they conclude the letter thanking the hiring manager for reading and expressing enthusiasm for the job. It is possible for a candidate to get hired just because of a cover letter. Many companies use automated systems to sift through resumes. Once past these systems, the applicant will be read by an actual person. It is during this time that the cover letter is being reviewed by a human. The letter does many things to help the applicant. First, it gives the reviewer some information about the applicant. Next, it provides evidence of the applicant's abilities. Lastly, it demonstrates the applicants enthusiasm for the position. All three items could cause the applicant to stand out from the rest of the field. A good cover letter will always take some time to write. When writing a good cover letter one should spend time researching the company and job description. Using that research to highlight the most relevant experiences and characteristics of the applicant. After highlighting the applicant's best qualities, he/she should make sure to proofread the letter multiple times to ensure there are no spelling or grammar mistakes. Ultimately, the goal of a great cover letter is to give a positive impression of the applicant in hopes that they receive an interview. Some examples of good covers letters include: * A well-written cover letter shows that the applicant took the time to do his/her research. This helps show that he/she is interested in the company and willing to put in effort when looking for employment. * An example of a good cover letter is one that highlights accomplishments rather than responsibilities. Instead of saying "I was responsible for developing and implementing new marketing campaigns," a good cover letter would say something like "Developed and implemented successful marketing campaigns that increased sales by 25%." * Another good quality of a cover letter is showing how much effort and dedication he/she puts into their work.
