I took apart toys as a kid. I wanted to understand how the gears in a wind-up car connected. What made a plastic latch click? What made a curve the perfect spot for a handle? I developed an interest in how things around me were designed. I came to understand that nearly everything we interact with is designed. It helped me appreciate how the things we use in our daily lives are designed to shape specific functions. This interest has evolved to compel me to pursue Industrial Design. I want to be able to connect the need of a person to a solution in a beautiful and efficient way. ID is the perfect blend of art and empathy for me. I was able to test this theory during a woodworking project in which I designed a desk organizer. At the time, I thought the best design challenge was to create something beautiful. I learned through this project that something can be very functional and serve its purpose, but if it doesn't have something soul, it will be forgotten. I enjoyed the process of bringing my idea to life. I want to continue to experience that feeling as an Industrial Designer. Knowing that your institution focuses on user-centered design, I am positive that I will be able to develop my design skills using your sustainable industrial design focus. I want to learn digital modeling, work in the workshops, and build upon my innovation with my peers. I want to study industrial design to turn my curiosity into a career so that I can make a difference by designing products that enhance the way we live.
