Best AI Humanizer for GPTZero

GPTZero (gptzero.me) is one of the earliest AI text detectors, widely used by educators to check whether student writing was generated with AI. In October 2026, GPTZero caught 151 of the 420 outputs from the 14 AI humanizers we tested (36.0%), the second highest catch rate of the six detectors. We only test humanized AI text, so this says nothing about how GPTZero treats human writing.

As of October 2026, the best AI humanizer for GPTZero on HumanizerBench is WriteHuman, with the highest average GPTZero score (99.5), followed by Phrasly (98.6) and StealthGPT (94.8).

Choosing a humanizer for GPTZero

The humanizer ranking above sorts by average GPTZero score alone. It leaves out the other detectors, and it leaves out meaning and readability. That makes it a narrow view. A tool can do well against GPTZero while changing what your text says or reading awkwardly, so check the Overall column in the ranking, and the Meaning and Readability columns on the leaderboard, before you choose. If a tool ranks high here but low on the leaderboard, find out what it gave up before you rely on it. The leaderboard balances every detector we test with meaning and readability.

Detectors change over time, and a result from one cycle may not hold in the next. HumanizerBench runs a new test cycle each month, so note which cycle you are reading and look at each tool's history on its results page.

When you try a tool, use a paragraph of your own writing, check the result in GPTZero yourself, then read the output line by line for changed facts and lost citations.

Questions about GPTZero

Is GPTZero accurate?

On humanized AI text, GPTZero has caught between 36.0% (October 2026) and 50.6% (July 2026) of outputs in the five months we have tested it. It had the highest catch rate of the detectors we test in one of them. We only test AI-written passages after a humanizer rewrites them, so we cannot say how often GPTZero flags human writing by mistake.

Can GPTZero be bypassed?

In October 2026, 269 of the 420 humanized outputs (64.0%) passed GPTZero as human-written. It depended on the tool: the 14 humanizers passed it on between 3% and 100% of their outputs.

What is the best AI humanizer for GPTZero?

As of October 2026, the best AI humanizer for GPTZero on HumanizerBench is WriteHuman, with the highest average GPTZero score (99.5), followed by Phrasly (98.6) and StealthGPT (94.8).

GPTZero or ZeroGPT: which catches more humanized text?

GPTZero caught more than ZeroGPT in all five months both were tested. Catch rates by month, GPTZero first: October 2026, 36.0% and 14.8%; September 2026, 47.2% and 18.7%; August 2026, 47.2% and 19.4%; July 2026, 50.6% and 15.4%; June 2026, 45.6% and 24.1%.

What kind of writing does GPTZero flag most?

Over the five months we have tested it, GPTZero caught humanized business emails most often (89 of 117, 76%) and blog posts least often (93 of 395, 24%).
